Goodbye, Borderstan

The eyes of Borderstan: Our great contributors, past and present.

It’s time for us at Borderstan to say thank you and goodbye for now. This is our last planned post on Borderstan.com, although the site will remain live for several months.

This was a difficult decision to make. We have enjoyed covering one of Washington’s great neighborhoods: the Dupont-Logan-U Street area. When we first went live in August 2008, we had no idea that Borderstan would grow to where it is today.

We were thrilled to have met so many of the great people in this neighborhood and to write about the changes occurring in our city.

From everyone involved with Borderstan.com we want to say thank you to our readers and advertisers. We will always remember the support we received from the community and locally owned businesses.

To our volunteer contributors, we cannot begin to thank you enough — and this includes the wonderful photographers who shared their photographs in our Flickr group. Even though some of you moved on before today’s final post and may not be listed on our contributor’s page, your hard work and dedication are remembered. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Luis Gomez and Matt Rhoades, co-founders

It has been a pleasure to bring you the neighborhood news.

Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into making Borderstan happen! I loved being a contributor and reading everyone else’s stories through the years. Much love!!!

Wow! Thanks for a fantastic job. It is nice the way you uniquely covered so many special items of interest to our neighborhood. The excellent photos were always great as well.

Hopefully you’ll take a nice vacation and decide to pick up again, maybe it’s a bad weather hair day thing.

  • Tom

This is such a bummer! I’ve loved following Borderstan over the years – we’ll miss you!

  • Laura (@Lmhhabs)

Matty & Luis- thank you for everything that you’ve done, you’ve made an amazing contribution to our community! All the best, L

  • Burt

    Out of curiosity…why?

  • Ellen

I will miss you!! Borderstan has been a great source of information. Not the same as Borderstan, but an alternative is nextdoor.com. The U Street Corridor and Dupont Circle groups are valuable.

  • Liz

Matty and Luis- I have loved the stories you have reported on over the years, and will certainly miss this wealth of neighborhood information! You’ve done a great job. I hope this doesn’t mean you’re leaving the neighborhood.

  • I’m truly sorry to see you go. I’m a huge fan, and as you know I linked to you and retweeted your stuff on an almost daily basis. You did great work and will be missed.

Thank you both so much for your excellent work and for caring about — and naming! — this part of DC. Your voices and pictures will be so missed but do know you and your charming, smart contributors made a strong and positive contribution to the life of this city.

Thanks for all the wonderful work that you did, Matty and Luis (and Lupe). And for all the good things you do for our community.

I’ve loved the blog. It’s been fun and interesting and never dull. I’m certainly going to miss it.

Take a well-deserved vacation, or a couple of day trips, and then move on.

But take pride in the great job you did.

Thanks. Many, many thanks to you and to all the contributors!

  • Karen

Sad news! Borderstan is my favorite source of local news. You will be missed!

  • Emanuela

Matt and Luis– I have no words to say how sorry I am thinking that I won´t receive your news and info any longer…
Warmest wishes and many thanks for all the good job done!

  • I’m sorry to hear the news 🙁

Borderstan has been a quality source of local news, events and other content. I realize there are other DC blogs out there, but I will miss the Dupont/Logan/U-St emphasis.

I wish all the editorial and site staff the best. -Eric

  • Kevin

Sorry to see you go! I will miss this source of information and photos of our neighborhood. We will be a little less connected without you.

  • Joe

Why not continue on with Borderstan as a totally volunteer-driven site?

  • Christine

Complete bummer! This blog has been my go-to for neighborhood news. Thanks you for keeping it going this long – all the best to everyone involved!

  • Jay

Sorry to see you go. Your work was important and informative and the site will be missed. Good luck on your future endeavors.

  • Christian

It seems that lately many good neighborhood blogs are shutting down, ie: DCMud, DC Metrocentric, JD Land, 14&U, U St Girl, Left for Ledroit and now Bordestan. Is anybody picking filling the void left by this trend? Please let me know what’s left.

  • Molly

Oh no! I will miss Borderstan terribly. You are my #1 source of news for our neighborhood and DC. I will keep my fingers crossed that someone picks up where you left off (could you sell the site?). Not that anyone could replace you, but I hope someone tries to do so. I love feeling so connected to the neighborhood. We will miss you!

  • Liz Medina Chiomenti

    Nooooooooooooo! 🙁

  • Thank you for all the great coverage of Garrison! The Garrison community will miss your important voice a lot. Hopefully our paths will cross again soon.

  • Guy Jones

Gentlemen, I am saddened to hear this news. You and your contributors provided excellent, insightful and informative coverage of local news and topics of intrigue. You provided a valuable service to your fellow D.C. residents, and I know that I am not alone in stating that your articles will be sorely missed!!

I wish you and the rest of the Borderstan team all the best and good luck as you move on towards new projects and goals!!

  • Thanks guys for all the great work!! More time to spend with lupe.

  • Tensing

Thanks for the amazing overview of all things DC!

  • Rob
