(Updated at 1:50 p.m.) D.C. Councilmember Brianne Nadeau will hold a public meeting tonight to discuss and share information related to yesterday’s report of gunshots near the Columbia Heights Community Center.
The meeting will be held in the community center at 9 p.m.
Nadeau will be joined by Third District MPD Commander Jake Kishter and the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreaton Chief of Staff John Stokes.
In a statement released yesterday, Nadeau said she was taking the reports that several gunshots rang out near the community center yesterday “very seriously.”
“Immediately following this incident I spoke with the director of Parks and Rec, who relayed to me what steps they took to keep the children safe, and also what MPD is doing to pursue those involved,” wrote Nadeau.
“In the long term, I am working to ensure MPD has the resources they need to prevent these kinds of incidents, while applying constant pressure on MPD so that they leave no stone unturned in their efforts to keep Ward 1 safe,” she said.
