Person of Interest in Theft Filmed Fleeing Apartment in Columbia Heights

Police are searching for a person in filmed in connection with a theft that occurred in Columbia Heights on June 30 around 5 a.m.

In a video released today by police, that person can be seen quickly walking away from an apartment building near the 1400 block of Clifton Street NW while clutching two full shopping bags.

The person of interest returns to the apartment building less than a minute later, according to the time stamp on the video, then squats down and appears to change shoes.

Police officials had no additional information when contacted earlier today by phone, but they confirmed the incident was related to a first-degree theft, meaning that the property stolen was worth up to or more than $1,000.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent offense, including armed robbery, committed in the District of Columbia.
