Several witnesses reported seeing the police car hit a person on the crosswalk around 1:44 p.m.
“I was actually walking with a buddy of mine and we heard the sirens, we saw the car zooming, it was like a half a block ahead of us,” said John Slaughter from Portland Oregon. “He swerved, and he couldn’t swerve in time to miss the bystander who had a walking sign and hit them.”
Both the police officer and the person they struck were transported to the hospital, said Police spokeswoman Alice Kim.
The intersection was blocked off shortly after the collision occurred.
