You might see D.C. Police officers and cadets patrolling neighborhoods across the Third District in the coming days and weeks, but don’t be alarmed. This is normal.

MPD’S Third District last night kicked off its annual holiday detail program by pitching a tent on the 3300 block of Georgia Avenue NW. Cadets and officers joined Third District Commander Jeffery Carroll in walking foot patrols across the neighborhood and meeting with local residents.

MPD Community Outreach Coordinator Marco Santiago said the program is meant for “visibility purposes,” and that the officers were stationed in an area where “thefts, disorderly behavior, narcotics calls and abandoned buildings” were a problem.

The next holiday detail will be located at 7th Street and Georgia Avenue NW at 4 p.m. on an undetermined date, Santiago said.

The Third District also held a similar program over the summer in response to a shooting near 7th and O streets NW.
