Would-Be Robber With Knife Beats Cabbie Near Howard
(Updated at 2:05 p.m.) A knife-wielding assailant punched a taxi driver several times in an attempted robbery near Howard University early yesterday morning, police said.
The attack happened on the 200 block of W Street NW about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday.
The cabbie was driving someone to the area after picking the individual up at 9th and U streets NW, according to authorities. Once on W Street, the passenger pulled out a knife and told the driver to hand over the “f——g money,” but the cabbie declined, police said.
The passenger then hit the driver multiple times before getting out of the taxi and fleeing without any money.
The cabbie received a cut to his hand, but declined medical attention on the scene, according to authorities.
Police haven’t released a description of the suspect.
A group of four men also robbed someone at knifepoint near the 14th Street corridor this morning, according to authorities.
The robbery occurred near 15th and S streets NW about 5:45 a.m.
Police haven’t released detailed descriptions of the men.
