Andrew StuartThe co-owner of the High Dive (2337 18th St. NW), who is currently in the hospital awaiting an organ donation, is in “good spirits,” according to the bar’s other owner.

High Dive co-owner Tristan Magee announced last week that friend and business partner, Andrew Stuart, was critically ill and in need of an organ donation. Though Magee previously said he “didn’t think [Stuart] was going to make it,” he’s now more optimistic about his business partner’s condition.

“I saw Andrew yesterday and he was drastically different from the person I saw last time,” Magee told us this morning. “He’s awake and coherent, and seems to be in pretty good spirits, actually … after seeing him yesterday, I think he’s going to get through this.”

Magee previously has declined to disclose exact details of his business partner’s illness out of respect for Stuart’s family.

Though Magee cautioned that Stuart “is not out of the woods” until he receives a transplant, he added that “his sense of humor is unscathed, and knowing Andrew, that’s whats going to get himself through this.”

Magee said that since he shared the news about Stuart’s illness last week, the neighborhood has come forward to offer condolences and support.

“The whole Adams Morgan community has been really supportive,” said Magee. “I know that means a lot to not only Andrew and his family, but me as well.”
