The incident happened on the 1700 block of N Street NW about 2:15 a.m. Monday. The area is about a block west of the Scott Circle park.

The good Samaritan was walking in the vicinity when he saw two men and a woman hitting and kicking a man and taking items from his pockets, according to authorities. Finding the victim under attack, the good Samaritan tried to help, but the thieves punched and kicked him, instead.

At one point, before the good Samaritan arrived, as many as 10 men and women were attacking the robbery victim. They tore his pants while punching and kicking him and kneeing him in the groin, police said.

A woman also was punched and kicked by several people in a related attack in the same area Monday, according to authorities. But it wasn’t immediately clear when the assault happened.

All of the victims declined medical attention.

Authorities haven’t released detailed descriptions of the suspects.
