(Updated at 4:42 p.m.) Someone in a car crashed into a woman about a block north of Farragut Square this afternoon, critically injuring her, according to authorities.

The collision happened near 17th and L streets NW about 1:40 p.m., D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Tim Wilson said. According to police, the driver kept going after hitting the woman.

The woman was “conscious and breathing” when she was brought to a local hospital with critical injuries, said officer Sean Hickman.

A man, who only identified himself as “Ronald,” said he saw a green sports utility vehicle drive over a woman at the intersection.

“First I heard a crack, and then I turned around and I saw the vehicle run over the top of a lady and keep going,” Ronald said.

An ambulance arrived about five minutes later, he added.

The case is currently “under investigation,” according to police.
