Tortas and other Mexican small bites are headed to Songbyrd Record Cafe next month.

Former Big Bear chef and current Cocina Tortas owner Quinten Frye will prepare Mexican Tortas, finger foods and desserts at Songbyrd Record  Cafe (2477 18th St. NW) during a pop-up on Feb. 1 from 5-10 p.m.

Frye’s tortas will be stuffed with ingredients such as grilled citrus marinated chicken with avocado, Tecate-simmered pork shoulder and headcheese carnitas with poblano-orange salsa. Each torta will cost $12, and diners can bedeck their order with a sunny-side-up egg for a dollar extra.

Other menu items will include papas fritas with tajin queso fresco, Mexican street style corn with lime mayo, chili powder, cilantro and fried avocado with cabbage slaw and pickled jalapenos.

Dan Searing, owner of of Room 11 (3234 11th St. NW), will serve tequila punch and other drinks in the next-door music house.
