Cocktail Bar to Bring ‘Sexy Food,’ Shuffleboard to Logan Circle

A new cocktail bar from hotel company Kimpton is coming to Logan Circle, and its head chef promises an attractive menu and plenty of things to do.
When Kimpton opens the Mason and Rook Hotel at 1430 Rhode Island Rhode Island Avenue this spring, it will include Radiator, a “culinary-focused cocktail bar and neighborhood gathering place” with an automotive theme.
Head chef Jonathan Dearden, who previously worked at Ardeo + Bardeo, hopes to make the new bar a destination like Kimpton’s acclaimed restaurant and bar The Riggsby, and he hopes to achieve that with a “sexy” menu of bar food.
“Highlights include lamb belly tacos, harissa-roasted romanesco … it’s like sexy food,” Dearden said. “It’s exciting. You can eat more than just one or two things. Things can be shared and they can be talked about.”
Bartenders will also sling drinks like the frozen last word, a frozen cocktail made with gin, green chartreuse, maraschino cherries and house-made lime cordial and white russians made with habanero vodka, Kahlua and a cookies and cream ice cream.
“The food menu is going to be in sync with the drink menu,” Dearden said. “You go in with the intention of having some really awesome drinks and then are pleasantly surprised with the food.”
Guests will also be able to play backgammon, checkers and shuffleboard in an outdoor patio with seating for 50 people and a fire pit.
