Urban Hawk Spotted Chowing Down in Logan Circle

Who needs an exterminator when you’ve got a hungry hawk?

This ravenous raptor was spotted perched on a tree at the corner of 15th and Corcoran streets NW. Though it’s not clear what the bird was chowing down on, it’s probably safe to assume it was a pigeon, squirrel, rat or other urban critter.

Contrary to what you might think, spotting a metropolitan owl, hawk, eagle or other bird of prey isn’t exactly rare. Still, seeing a big bird gobbling up bloody bits on a tree branch in the middle of a city is an exciting experience.

  1. Looks awfully like the hawk I spotted on my backyard fence about 4.5 years ago on 15th between Swann and T Streets NW. Doubt it’s the same one, I certainly can’t tell the difference but the same area makes me wonder just a little bit. 🙂

  2. Husband just saw a hawk like that last month, on the 1500 block of Swann. Maybe a relative? Sorry the photo is blurry – its either a hawk or Tiny Batman.
