Veranda in Logan Circle might look a little different in the coming weeks.

That’s because the Mediterranean eatery, located at 1100 P St. NW, is being transformed into a neighborhood tavern called The Commodore with the help of Rebellion’s owner, Brian Westlye.

“Aleks [Duni], the owner of Veranda, brought us in to hit reset and get this corner busy again,” Westlye said. “Aleks is still the owner. It’s still going to be a neighborhood spot. It’s just not going to be Mediterranean cuisine.”

Though the eatery is currently closed — as noted by PoPville earlier today — it will serve a “tavern-y” menu of oysters, burgers, poutine and wings from Rebellion chef Travis Weiss when it reopens, Westlye said.

“The menu is going to be a little bit here and a little bit there,” he added.

Westlye said some of the eatery’s interior is undergoing an extensive renovation, although the “guts” of Veranda’s bar will still be incorporated into the restaurant’s design.

“We ripped out a bunch of walls,” he said. “There was this beautiful brick that was covered up. There will also be new furniture. The mural will be gone.”

The newly rebranded eatery could open its doors as soon as late March, Westlye said.
