Woman Punched Multiple Times in U Street Purse Snatching

1300 block of U Street NW (Photo via Google Maps)A woman was punched several times in the face when she tried to get her purse back from a thief near the U Street Metro station early yesterday morning, police said.

The robbery happened on the 1300 block of U Street NW about 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

The woman was walking in the area when someone snatched her purse, according to authorities. She then grabbed the robber by the shirt in an attempt to get her bag back.

But another individual punched her in the face multiple times. The assailant and the thief then fled.

The victim was treated on the scene for minor bruises above her eyes.

Police have arrested two people in connection with the robbery, according to authorities. But their identities weren’t immediately clear.

A cabbie also was punched in the face when he chased a man who robbed him downtown early Saturday morning, police said.

The robbery occurred on the 1400 block of K Street NW about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

The taxi driver just had picked up the man in the area when the passenger put an unknown object to the cabbie’s throat, according to authorities. The passenger then grabbed $80 in cash, a cellphone and a driver’s license from the driver.

When the thief exited the car, the cabbie got out, too. The driver then chased the robber until he threw the cabbie to the ground and punched him.

The thief hopped in a car with three other individuals soon after.

The cabbie was brought to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Police haven’t released detailed descriptions of the suspects.

A man was punched in the head in an attempted robbery near Meridian Hill Park early Saturday morning, too, according to authorities.

The incident happened on the 2600 block of 15th Street NW about 12:15 a.m. Saturday.

The victim was walking in the area with his cellphone out when two teenage boys approached him, police said. One of the teens then kicked the man in his side, causing him to fall to the ground.

The boy punched the victim in the head soon after in an attempt to get the phone from the man’s hand. The man then tossed the phone away from the boys.

Around that time, two witnesses approached, and the teens fled.

Authorities described the suspects as:

S-1: Black Male, 16-17 years old, 5’10”, thin build, dark complexion wearing a white jacket with a hoodie

S-2: Black Male, 16-17 years, 6’0″, thin build, dark complexion, 150 lbs., no facial hair, black jacket with black skull cap
