Brick Lane to Bring Comfort Food to 17th Street NW Monday
New restaurant Brick Lane will bring burgers, mac and cheese, sandwiches, steaks and tacos to 17th Street NW when it opens next week.
The eatery will open at 1636 17th St. NW on Monday, owner Salim Elalami told Borderstan yesterday evening.
“It is pretty much comfort food,” said Elalami, who added that the new restaurant will serve a diverse menu with influences from French, Spanish, Thai and American cuisines. “It’s almost like a little bistro.”
Elalami said the idea is to offer quality food for an affordable price.
“Our mission statement is to be able to get what you get at a high end restaurant for regular price instead of being overpriced,” he said. “The service is based on personal relationships and a neighborhood place. You remember everyone’s name.”
Patrons will be able to drink mojitos, margaritas, beer and wine with their meals, Elalami said. The eatery will also offer happy hour and late night drink specials.
Elalami added that he’s particularly proud of the restaurant and bar’s interior design, which was conceived by the restaurant’s general manager, Shanon Cunningham.
Above all else, Elalami hopes his new restaurant will attract regular customers from across the neighborhood.
“It’s a hangout place,” he said. “It’s decent food. And it’s a light atmosphere.”
