It may soon be possible to sample authentic Eritrean cuisine in Dupont Circle.

The purveyors of the Eritrean Cultural and Civic Center, a meeting place and public restaurant near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, have plans to move their operations to 1214 18th Street NW, according to center representative Jeff Jackson.

When the new location opens in April, Jackson said it will serve as a restaurant for the public and a wedding venue and arts space for D.C.’s Eritrean community.

“That’s where they come to gather for cultural events,” Jackson said. “They’re [also] going to have a restaurant open to the public.”

Jackson added that the restaurant will serve an “extensive” menu of Eritrean fare like shiro, lamb qulwa and alicha.

According to ABRA filings, the center is currently pursuing a liquor license application for a new multipurpose facility at 1214 18th Street NW.
