Shaw Garden Center to Reopen This Weekend

The urban garden retail center known as the “green beating heart of Shaw” is set to resume operations for the season this weekend.

Old City Farm and Guild is scheduled to reopen at 925 Rhode Island Ave. NW on Saturday at 9 a.m., according to owner Frank Asher.

Its spring hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The center is closed Mondays.

Asher added in an email:

[It’s] a great time to prep your beds, your garden, your balcony.

[Old City] has pots, soil, compost and mulch. Even get a head start on seeds indoors.

Beautify your outdoor space with colorful pansies for this spring.

Soon it will be time for herbs, vegetables and flowers.
