Police car lightSomeone choked and tried to rape a woman who was held in a car against her will in the Logan Circle area over the weekend, police said.

The kidnapping and attempted sexual assault happened about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. The exact location of the crime wasn’t known. But the woman was seen on the 1300 block of M Street NW before the incident.

The victim was in the area when she ended up in the car, which had four other individuals in it, according to authorities. It wasn’t immediately clear if she was forced into the vehicle, however.

But once inside the car, two of those individuals wouldn’t let her leave. One of them then “choked her and attempted to have her . . . perform a sex act against her will,” police said.

Authorities haven’t released any descriptions of the suspects.

A man also gashed another man’s arm with a hatchet in Lanier Heights Friday, police said.

The assault happened on the 1600 block of Lanier Place NW about 3 a.m.

The men were arguing in the area when one of them attacked the other one with the ax, according to authorities.

The victim was brought to a local hospital with a “sever[e] laceration” to his left arm, police said.

Authorities haven’t released a description of the suspect.

  1. You have a right to be out and about, that’s for sure, but why would you be out on the streets at 4:30 a.m? And joining strangers in their vehicles? Is there a reason for being out at that hour–unless you’re at work (at a legitimate job)? I may be very naive, and don’t want to blame the victim.
