Driver Hits, Seriously Injures Man Downtown

DC Fire and EMS ambulanceSomeone behind the wheel of a car crashed into and seriously injured a man downtown this evening.

The crash happened near the intersection of 17th and L streets NW just after 6 p.m., according to Officer Hugh Carew, a spokesman for D.C. Police.

The man hit by the car was unconscious but breathing when police arrived and was transported to a local hospital, Carew said.

The crash involved a dumpster and a vehicle and occurred in an alley, according to local journalist Alan Henney.

Police did not immediately provide more information about the collision, and we were unable to reach a representative for D.C. Fire and EMS for comment.
