There’s lots to do this week. Here’s a smattering of events happening across the area through next Monday:
Black Cat (1811 14th St. NW)
The comedian and host of SNL’s “Weekend Update” will perform stand-up. His first comedy special aired on Comedy Central last year.
Wednesday Night Bluegrass and Folk Music
Duffy’s (2106 Vermont Ave. NW)
Neighborhood tavern Duffy’s will launch a new series of Wednesday night bluegrass and folk music events. The first band to grace the stage at Duffy’s will be Drymill Road, a “newgrass” group from Virginia.
NASA and GA Present: Space Night
1776 (1133 15th St. NW)
NASA’s Destination Station and General Assembly will bring astronauts and scientists to downtown D.C. during this free event. NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore and International Space Station scientist Dr. Camille Alleyne will talk about living 240 miles above the Earth.
History and Hops
Heurich House (1307 New Hampshire Ave. NW)
Every third Thursday of the month the Heurich House partners with a local craft brewery for house tours and beer tastings. This month’s featured brewer will be Manor Hill Brewing from Ellicott City, Md.
2nd Annual North Dupont Community Cleanup
T Street Park (17th Street and New Hampshire Ave. NW)
Volunteers will meet at the park to help pick up trash, distribute mulch into tree boxes and tend to the park’s gardening. D.C. Department of Public Works will provide trash bags and mulch, but attendees are encouraged to bring gloves and shovels.
Earth Day Beautification
Park View Recreation Center (Warder and Otis Pl. NW)
Attendees will be tasked with planting flowers and picking up trash at the Park View Rec Center. Tools and gloves will be provided. As an added bonus, all volunteers get free pizza for lunch at noon.
Educational Earth Day Puppet Show
Stead Park (1625 P St. NW)
The Blue Sky Puppet Theater will perform an educational Earth Day puppet show for little ones in attendance.
National Parks Day
Meridian Hill / Malcom X Park (2400 15th St. NW)
Attendees can meet the current U.S. Surgeon General and local doctors while taking advantage of free health screenings and participating in free activities.
