(Updated at 11:23 a.m.) D.C. apparently likes cheap sandwiches.

About a hundred people, possibly more, were spotted lining in front of the Jimmy John’s at 1101 14th St. NW earlier today. The chain is slinging $1 sandwiches across the District and its surrounding areas.

Local journalist Travis Mitchell, who told us he was waiting in line for a roast beef sandwich, said people started lining up before the eatery’s 11 a.m. opening time.

The line, which reportedly spanned the entire block, also apparently spawned other business opportunities.  At one point, Mitchell tweeted, an employee from the nearby Dunkin Donuts started taking orders from the crowd.

From beginning to end, Mitchell said it took him about a half hour to get his sandwich.
