Man Hit in Head With Bicycle Lock in Downtown Robbery

A thief whacked a man in the head with a bicycle U-lock during a robbery just west of Franklin Square early yesterday morning, police said.

The violent robbery happened on the 1400 block of K Street NW about 4 a.m. Thursday.

The man was walking in the area when another man approached him and asked for money, according to authorities. The victim then showed the man that he had $10 in singles.

The money seeker hit the man with the bike lock soon after, causing the victim to drop the cash, along with his iPad mini and iPod touch. The attacker then grabbed the items and fled.

The victim was brought to a local hospital for treatment.

Police haven’t released a detailed description of the suspect.
