Man Wanted in Shaw Bar Burglary Caught on Video

A man suspected of busting into a new bar in Shaw and running off with cash last month has appeared in surveillance footage, according to authorities.

The burglary happened at Espita Mezcaleria (1250 9th St. NW) about 4:30 a.m. April 25. The mezcal-centric bar opened in March.

Video police distributed today in connection with the crime shows a man with a bag behind the bar’s counter, fiddling with two cash registers and a cooler.

It wasn’t clear how much money Espita lost. But a police officer reported that the bar had a busted cash drawer and a broken glass door, thanks to a brick.
