Thief Pummels Woman in Violent Robbery Near U Street Corridor

900 block of W Street NW (Photo via Google Maps)A man beat up a woman before he robbed her near the U Street corridor over the weekend, police said.

The violent robbery occurred on the 900 block of W Street NW about 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

The woman was standing in the area when the man approached her, without saying anything, according to authorities. He then punched her repeatedly in the face, knocking her to the ground

The man continued to hit her soon after her fall and took her money, iPhone and other belongings before fleeing.

The woman was brought to a local hospital for treatment.

Police released this suspect description:

Black male, 5’9″-6’0″, 21-30 years old, medium complexion, medium build, clean shaven, baggy dark blue jeans, black sweatshirt with a hood and white writing on the back.

According to authorities, other robberies and robbery attempts in the Borderstan coverage area since Friday included:

  • A purse snatching in Lanier Heights on the 2700 block of Ontario Road NW about 1:45 Saturday. Police arrested a suspect in connection with the crime after a witness chased the individual and recovered the purse.
  • An attempted robbery with a gun-wielding, would-be thief near the U Street corridor on the 2000 block of 13th Street NW about 3:45 a.m. Saturday. Police are looking for a:

Black male, about 5’11 in height, thin build, dark complexion, 25-29 years old, no facial hair, medium length curly hair (possibly short dreadlocks), dark blue jeans, small black coat, possibly wearing sneakers.

  • A robbery in which thieves knocked a man down and robbed him about a block south of Howard University’s campus on the 500 block of T Street NW about 3:15 a.m. Sunday. Police haven’t released any suspect descriptions.

Police on Friday also distributed surveillance footage in connection with burglaries on 18th and 14th streets NW.

One video shows a man with a red T-shirt and white baseball cap walking around the building that houses Keller Williams Realty at about 3 a.m. April 19.

The other video shows a man rummaging around Trade at 1410 14th St. NW after getting in through a window about 5 a.m. last Tuesday.
