Cyclist Fights Off Attacker Who Tried to Rob Him in Columbia Heights

1300 block of Irving Street NW (Photo via Google Maps)A cyclist scared off a would-be thief who punched him and tried to steal his bicycle in Columbia Heights over the weekend, police said.

The violent attempted robbery happened on the 1300 block of Irving Street NW about 6 p.m. Saturday.

The victim was riding his mountain bike just east of the Columbia Heights Metro station when two men approached him, according to authorities. One of the men then punched the cyclist in his left eye.

“Let me get that bike motherf—-r,” the attacker said, according to police.

But instead of giving up his bike, the cyclist fought back, scaring away the men.

The victim declined medical attention when paramedics arrived.

Police haven’t released detailed descriptions of the suspects.

Thieves also robbed a man at knifepoint in Columbia Heights last weekend, according to authorities.

The armed robbery occurred on the 3000 block of 16th Street NW about 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The victim was just south of the Columbia Heights Educational Campus when two individuals went up to him, police said. One of them then flashed a knife and demanded money.

The robbers fled soon after with $250.

Authorities haven’t released any descriptions of the suspects.

Thieves choked, punched and robbed a man  in Shaw over the weekend, too, police said.

The violent robbery happened on the 900 block of Westminster Street NW about 1 a.m. Saturday.

The man was about two blocks south of U Street NW when two men approached him from behind, according to authorities. One of the men then grabbed the victim by his neck, while the other one took the victim’s wallet and iPhone from his pockets.

The victim soon after fell to the ground, where one of the robbers punched him before fleeing. Someone then used a credit card from the victim for an Uber ride and at nearby 7-Eleven locations.

The victim declined medical attention when paramedics arrived.

Police haven’t released detailed descriptions of the suspects, only noting that one of them wore a red hat.

  2. But cops still protect criminals. Hey cops, we all know, it’s OK. Just remember who’s on your side and who wants to make your life difficult. K thx

  3. When are the police going to determine who is buying the stolen bikes? When a bike is stolen, the policy say check ebay or craiglist. Ridiculous in my view. There is obviously a fence buying the bikes. How about some investigation?
