(Updated at 11:17 a.m.) A “European-style cafe and bar” is set to open blocks away from Dupont Circle.
The new business, Emissary, will open in the space below Dupont Circle Yoga (2032 P St. NW) “early July,” according to owner Elias Hengst, who also co-owns Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar and Dupont Circle Yoga.
The cafe and bar will be a “European cafe meets West Coast coffee house,” Hengst said.
“Someone can have a beer, someone can have a glass of wine, you can have an espresso,” he added. “You can all share a little bit of good food. It’s a very unrushed, laid back vibe.”
The shop’s menu will include food and drinks from Counter Culture Coffee and Trickling Springs Creamery, Hengst said.
The company is currently hiring baristas, according to a job listing on DMV Coffee:
Emissary is a European-style cafe and bar opening this summer in the heart of Dupont Circle. The plan is to provide a hospitality-forward cafe that serves as more of a social space for the local community as well as visitors from out-of-town.
We are very proud to be partnering with Counter Culture Coffee and Trickling Springs Creamery to combine conscientiously sourced beans and dairy into our hand-crafted coffee and espresso drinks. To do this, however, we will need your help. We are looking to build a team of hard-working, creative, detail oriented and service-minded baristas to help establish ourselves as a destination for locals and visitors.
Experience within the specialty coffee industry is obviously a very welcome but far from necessary qualification. What we value more than behind-the-counter experience is a great attitude as that will be essential to making our customers feel welcome from the very first time they set foot in our door.
We will offer competitive pay and benefits. We also know that the best way to make our customers happy is if our employees are also happy. Therefore we offer an open door, open mind and open ear to whatever ideas you may have to make our overall experience more memorable for our guests. As we expand our kitchen and open our bar, more opportunities to contribute may present themselves, so the more flexibility our employees bring to the table, the better.
[Those with an interest in wellness will be interested in knowing that we share a premises with Dupont Circle Yoga.]
