(Updated at 12:50 p.m. Friday) Italian food is set to return to the former Pasta Mia space in Adams Morgan this summer.
Osteria Al Volo from D.C. pasta maker Cucina Al Volo is slated to open at 1790 Columbia Road NW in early August, said Tuscan native Daniele Catalani, who owns the business with his nephew, Matteo. Pasta Mia closed in March after 25 years in business.
“It’s high quality fresh pasta of course and Italian cooking classes,” Daniele said in an email to Borderstan.
Cucina Al Volo, which Daniele and Matteo founded last year, makes pasta using ingredients from local farmers and sells it at Union Market and at farmers markets at 14th and U streets NW and in Bloomingdale, according to its Facebook page.
“There’s a lot of demand for good food, but there’s not a lot of people providing it,” Matteo told The Washington Post earlier this year. “We have a purpose here.”
Local blog PoPville earlier this week was the first to note “scuttlebutt” about Cucina Al Volo opening a restaurant in Adams Morgan.
