Maryland Driver Killed in Crash Near Howard University
A Maryland man died after hitting a pickup truck with his car on the western edge of Howard University’s campus last night, police said.
The collision, which killed Vincent King of Wheaton, happened on the 2500 block of Georgia Avenue NW about 8:45 p.m. Saturday.
King, 50, was driving his 2005 Mercedes-Benz south on the street at a “high rate of speed” when he crashed into a 2010 Ford F-150 from behind, according to authorities.
The Mercedes then hit the curb on the west side of Georgia Avenue, rammed into a chain-link fence and a fire hydrant, and overturned. The truck crossed into oncoming traffic and slammed into the curb on the east side of the street, crashing into a tree and light pole, and overturning.
King was pronounced dead on the scene. The Ford driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.
