Avid tomato eaters will have a chance to indulge their taste buds in a series of dishes with the fruit on the 14th Street corridor next week.

Cafe Saint-Ex (1847 14th St. NW) is hosting its inaugural “Tomato Week” from Monday until next Sunday, July 31. Diners will have the option to order from a special menu with a variety of tomato-based dishes, Cafe Saint-Ex general manager Zeina Badran said.

“We wanted to highlight the seasonality and the freshness,” she said. “Most people don’t know that we do a lot of farm-to-table and use a lot of locally grown produce. There is nothing better than heirloom, or locally grown tomatoes.”

The menu will have gazpacho, salad and its fried green tomato BLT, among other items.

“We wanted to use this opportunity to highlight our fried green tomato BLT, which has been on the menu for over 10 years,” Badran said. “Our menu changes seasonally, but the BLT has always stayed on the menu.”

According to an email from Badran, Cafe Saint-Ex’s tomato-based menu includes:

Heirloom tomato & watermelon salad with feta cheese, balsamic, beldi olives  $13

Gazpacho – heirloom tomato, cucumber olive oil  $9

Fried Green Tomatoes with shrimp remoulade, pickled okra  $14

Smoked tomatoes, crab, cream of corn, pickled green tomato, hush puppies $16

Fried Green Tomato BLT with tomato mayo, mixed greens $13
