Police_Cruiser(Updated at 2 p.m. Thursday) A man died following a double shooting in Shaw late last night, according to D.C. Police.

The shooting occurred at a parking lot on the 600 block of N St. NW just after 10 p.m. yesterday evening, authorities said.

Officers rushed to the scene of the crime and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a police report we obtained this morning.

The man who died — identified as 19-year-old Derryk Johnson — was shot in the head, authorities said. The other victim was shot multiple times in his back and right leg. That man was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

The street where the shooting occurred is about one block from several popular restaurants and the City Market at O Street development.

Police did not provide a lookout for a suspect.

  1. Isn’t there a police “booth” at 6th and O due to the deaths in this same area last summer? Not blaming the cops but perhaps we need to use some of the millions of tax dollars and parking tickets collected in this expensive neighborhood to increase the police presence and make the area safer for everybody.

  2. I live right around here, and there was a booth, but it closed in the fall. Wondering if it’ll make a reappearance now.

  3. I live a few blocks away, and I hope you’re right.
