UPDATED: Man Injured in Shooting Near Dupont Circle Bars

(Updated at 2:37 p.m.) Someone shot and injured a man on a street near several Dupont Circle bars early Saturday morning, according to D.C. Police.

Police said 27-year-old Ryan Demtric Matthews assaulted two people and shot a man in the chest outside of a business on the 1300 block of Connecticut Ave. NW around 3:20 a.m. Saturday morning.

The area where the shooting occurred is home to several bars and restaurants such as Madhatter, The Manor and The Big Hunt. A video posted to Twitter early Saturday morning appears to show a somewhat chaotic scene following the crime.

The shooting victim was rushed to a local hospital where he is currently listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

Police arrested Matthews after a brief chase and charged him with assault with intent to kill while armed, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of unregistered ammunition and two counts of simple assault.
