Cheese Tasting

Glen’s Garden Market’s “cheesemonger,” Kurt Schewe, is scheduled to host a class on several cheeses of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. During the class, attendees will sample cheese alongside local beer, wine and cider pairings.

Paint like Picasso

7-9 p.m.

Locals curious how Picasso became famous for painting like a “three-year-old” can learn the painter’s secrets during this class. 

Wednesday

Astronomy on Tap
DC9 Nightclub (1940 9th St. NW)
8-10 p.m.

Amateur astronomers can quaff beers while learning about the heavens above. The event includes three discussions on interstellar topics such as “Aliens: The Science Behind the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence” and “Earthlike, schmearthlike – what’s the deal with Proxima B?”

J-Film: The Birth of Sake
Japan Information and Culture Center (1150 18th St. NW, Suite 100)
6:30-9 p.m.

Learn how artisans ply their trade at a 144-year-old brewery in Japan during this film screening. Patrons can also sample the sake produced at the film’s brewery after the event.

Thursday

Queer Girl Movie Night: Back to School Edition
Suns Cinema (3107 Mount Pleasant St. NW)
8-11 p.m.

Indie theater Suns Cinema will screen “Loving Annabelle” during this event. “We want to focus on the representation of queer women in film, but this does not limit who is invited to this space,” organizers said. “People of all genders, sexualities, and presentations are welcome.”

Cook Korean Author Talk and Demonstration
Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Neighborhood Library (1630 7th St. NW)
7-10 p.m.

Graphic novel artist and author Robin Ha will talk about her new illustrated recipe book, “Cook Korean,” and demonstrate a few cooking tips.

Friday

Mind, Body and Spirits: A Yoga Happy Hour

5-7 p.m.

Patrons can bend their bodies then imbibe some spirits during this yoga event.
