Police car lightTwo thieves with a knife stole a pickup truck from a man in Columbia Heights yesterday afternoon, police said.

The armed carjacking occurred on the 3500 block of 13th Street NW about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim was hopping out of his truck to open a gate when a van pulled up to him, according to authorities. Two men got out of the van soon after and headed toward the truck, which was still running.

One of the men from the van then jumped into the truck’s front passenger’s seat, while his companion moved toward the driver’s seat.

The victim eventually confronted the man on his way to the driver’s seat. That man then pulled out a knife.

During the encounter, the man already in the truck got into the driver’s seat and sped off in the vehicle. The man with the knife went back to the van soon after and followed the truck.

Police found the van running nearby. But no one was inside the vehicle, which authorities described as a stolen blue Dodge Caravan with Maryland license plates.

Authorities still are looking for the truck, which they said was a black Nissan Frontier with Maryland license plates.

Police described the suspects as:

Black males approximately 23-25 years of age wearing all dark clothing.
