Man With Knife Chases Would-Be Robbers Near H Street Corridor

900 block of 5th Street NE (Photo via Google Maps)A man picked up a knife from two would-be thieves and scared them away after they tried to rob him near the H Street corridor last night, police said.

The attempted robbery happened on the 900 block of 5th Street NE about 11 p.m. Thursday.

The victim was walking up to his door about a block north of H Street NE when a man and another person came up to him, according to authorities. The man then flashed a hunting knife and ordered the victim to hand over his wallet.

Instead, the victim thew his wallet, keys and cellphone on his front porch. The man with the knife eventually went to get the items, dropping his weapon in the process.

The victim grabbed the knife soon after and chased away the man and his accomplice. The duo last was seen driving toward H Street in a sport utility vehicle with another person.

Police haven’t released any descriptions of the suspects.

A few blocks away, a thief robbed a man at gunpoint last night, too, according to authorities.

The armed robbery occurred on the 1100 block of 4th Street NE about 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

The victim was in the area when a man approached him, police said.. The man then flashed a gun and got the victim to give up his wallet, keys and iPhone.

Police sent out this tweet with a suspect description after the crime:

A man also slashed a cabbie’s tires after an argument in Foggy Bottom yesterday morning, police said.

The road rage incident happened on the 2100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW about 10:15 a.m. Thursday.

The cab driver cut off the man while he was driving on George Washington University’s campus, according to authorities. The man then threw a cup at the taxi from his moving car.

The cabbie and the man eventually stopped their cars and got out to confront each other. The man pulled out a knife soon after, causing the taxi driver to flee.

He then stabbed two of the cab’s tires, got back into his car and drove away.

Police haven’t released a description of the suspect. But they said he was driving a Toyota Camry.
