‘Survey’ Takers Beat Up, Try to Rob Man in NoMa

The attempted robbery occurred on the 800 block of 1st Street NE about 6:45 p.m.

The victim was walking about a block north of Union Station when two people came up to him, according to authorities. They then asked him if he would complete a survey.

The man declined and started to walk away. But the two people punched him in the head.

“Yo man give me your wallet,” one of the individuals said, as they continued to hit the victim, according to police.

A passerby then yelled that the police would get a call, scaring off the attackers.

The victim had swelling and bruising on his face, which a paramedic treated. But he declined to go to a hospital.

Authorities haven’t released detailed descriptions of the suspects.

Two thieves also beat up and robbed a man on the same block as the attempted robbery Friday night, police said.

The second crime happened on the 800 block of 1st Street NE about 7 p.m.

The victim was walking in the area when two young men punched him repeatedly and took his iPhone and wallet, according to authorities.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the victim sought any medical attention.

Police haven’t released detailed descriptions of the suspects.

According to authorities, other crimes that occurred in the Borderstan coverage area since Thursday afternoon included:

  • A robbery with an assault on the 1200 block of U Street NW about 2 p.m. Thursday. Police haven’t released any suspect information.
  • A robbery with a gun on the 100 block of Florida Avenue NW about 5 p.m. Thursday. Police haven’t released detailed suspect information.
  • A shooting near 13th and W streets NW about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Police described the suspect as a young black man who is 17 to 20 years old. He was wearing a gray jacket and black pants at the time of the shooting.
  • A robbery with a gun on the 1500 block of Vermont Avenue NW about 6 a.m. Sunday. Police arrested a suspect in connection with the crime.
