‘Krampusnacht’ Parade to March Down H Street This Saturday
Terrifying Christmas creatures will march down H Street during an annual holiday celebration this weekend.
D.C.’s “Krampusnacht” festivities kick off at Gallery O on H (1354 H St. NE) this Saturday at 5 p.m.
The event is centered around the mythical Krampus, a cloven, horned monster that punishes naughty children around Christmas each year. Legend has it that the Krampus appears alongside Saint Nicholas to shake chains, flick its tongue and cart off misbehaving children in a sack it wears on its back.
This year’s Krampusnacht celebration will include a charity benefit, live musical performances and of course, the big Krampus march down H Street.

The 5th Annual Krampusnacht DC! Leave your ugly holiday sweaters at home and enjoy a different kind of holiday celebration while raising funds for Santa’s Cause DC in this evening of merriment for the whole family. While in the spirit of the European Krampuslauf tradition, this is a light-hearted event where naughty and nice converge for an evening of performance, dance, children’s activities, procession to our H Street sponsors, and, of course, a visit with Santa and Krampus! Mr. and Mrs. Claus are here for your holiday photo needs and are here to receive donations of toys for the foster children of Family Matters of Greater Washington.
We’ll be bringing back a great lineup of performers (details to be posted in the coming weeks), and will also have our annual charity raffle with awesome prizes donated by our H Street sponsors.
The event takes place at the best courtyard in town in a lovely space donated by our friends at Gallery O on H. All of the proceeds at the door go to benefit Santa’s Cause D.C.
Evening Schedule:
5 p.m. — Santa’s Cause DC Benefit Reception
Santa Claus, children’s activities and live entertainment.
7 p.m. — Krampuslauf Walk H Street NE
Start: 1354 H St, NE (Gallery O on H)
West on H Street to 11th & H
East on H Street to 13th & H
9 p.m. – 11pm After party at Gallery O on H (21+ over with ID check)
Suggested donations of $10 or unwrapped Christmas gift requested.No cover for the event, a $10 suggested donation is requested. Reception and the walk are open to all ages. After party is 21+ at 9 p.m. Costumes or any reasonable attempt is highly encouraged.
Please dress in layers — all/most of the activities, including the dance party are outside in Gallery O’s beautiful courtyard.
There will be a cash bar at Gallery O.
Parking can be tricky on H Street – leave plenty of time to park, double check the signs to make sure that you aren’t in a “resident sticker only” zone. Since it is a Saturday, time restrictions should be lifted on the meters, making it possible to pay for the meter for your whole stay.
