Colonial Spirits: A Toast to Our Drunken History

Columbia Room owner Derek Brown and author Steven Grasse will serve cocktails and snacks while discussing Grasse’s new book about old-timey drinking. Admission to the event, which costs $105 per person, includes a copy of the book.
No Pulp Comedy Featuring Matty Litwack *

Comedian Matty Litwack headlines this monthly comedy show at the Black Squirrel in Adams Morgan. The other comedians slated to perform are Dylan Meyer, Katherine Jessup, Martin Amini and Chelsea Shorte.
Trade’s One-Year Birthday Party

5 p.m.-1:45 a.m.
The 14th Street gay bar will celebrate its first birthday with $1 beer specials, free food, live music and cake.
Glen’s Garden Market Dupont (2001 S St. NW)
Glen’s Garden Market’s “cheesemonger,” Kurt Schewe, is scheduled to host a class on several cheeses of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. During the class, attendees will sample cheese alongside local beer, wine and cider pairings.
Mural Lighting and Signing

National beer brewer PBR is hosting an event marking the lighting and signing of the Park View beer garden’s new mural, “The Garden of Beeden.” The event costs $20 and includes all-you-can-drink PBR and a free glass.
Playbackthetape: Island of Misfit Tapes
Suns Cinema (3107 Mount Pleasant St. NW)
This nostalgic event will screen five Christmas specials on VHS. The screening will include classics like Rudolph, the “Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and the apparently ultra-rare “A Muppet Family Christmas.”
Super Art Fight’s Non-Denominational Holiday Spectacular

The self-described “Pictionary meets pro wrestling” show will host its annual holiday show this Friday.
Annual Ugly Sweater Party at Town Tavern

8 p.m.-3 a.m.
Attendees can don an ugly sweater and spend $10 for an open bar between 8 and 10 p.m. The open bar costs $15 for people not wearing sweaters.
Gallagher and Graham Fine Spirits (1939 12th St. NW)
11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The liquor store is set to raise a glass with the U Street neighborhood and celebrate its two-year anniversary.
Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School

Burlesque performer Cherie Sweetbottom will become the “perfect muse” during this “anti-art” drawing class. Attendees must be 18 or older to draw and 21 or older to drink.
Ugly Sweater Party and Toy Drive

Toy donations get attendees happy hour specials the entire night. Patrons are encouraged to wear their “craziest” holiday sweaters.
