Man Punched, Robbed in Mount Pleasant
A thief punched a man and robbed him in Mount Pleasant last night, police said.
The violent robbery happened on the 3300 block of 17th Street NW about 8:45 p.m. Monday.
The victim was walking just north of Lamont Park when five men surrounded him, according to authorities. One of them then hit the victim in his right ear.
The attacker and one of his accomplices went through the victim’s pockets soon after, grabbing his wallet. The five men eventually fled.
Cops stopped five men in connection with the crime. But the victim said the people weren’t involved with the robbery.
Police haven’t released detailed descriptions of the suspects.
A would-be thief with a gun also tried to rob a man downtown early this morning, according to authorities.
The attempted armed robbery occurred on the 900 block of 12th Street NW about 5 a.m.
The victim was sitting in his car about a block east of Franklin Square when a man opened the driver’s side door and flashed a handgun, police said. The man with the gun then ordered the victim to hand over his wallet.
But the man with the gun didn’t get the wallet and fled.
Authorities described the suspect as a:
Black male approximately 25 years of age, 5’9″, light complexion, wearing a dark jacket, khaki pants.
