About Borderstan
Borderstan is a community news website that covers breaking news, arts and entertainment, politics, local business and everything in between.
We cover a large swath of Northwest and Northeast D.C., from areas around Dupont Circle and Logan Circle up to U Street, Adams Morgan, Mount Pleasant, Columbia Heights, Park View, Shaw, NoMa, Bloomingdale, Truxton Circle and the H Street corridor. We aim to report on urgent local issues and the stories that matter most to you, our readers.
Our site co-editors are Tim Regan and Andrew Ramonas.
Regan has covered local news, restaurants, oddities and the arts for Washington Post Express, Washington City Paper and Thrillist, among others. Most recently, he was assistant editor of two magazines on the housing market and home renovation.
Ramonas previously worked for The National Law Journal, Corporate Counsel and Mainjustice.com. He began his journalism career in D.C. at The GW Hatchet.
Launched in 2008 by Matt Rhoades and Luis Gomez, the site originally covered a slice of the city known to locals as “Borderstan,” the area around the border of two police districts on 15th Street NW. The name comes from an effort by local activists to convince police from each district to cooperate in solving crimes in the area.
For five years, Matt and Luis covered their neighborhood with passion and precision. The team behind the new Borderstan.com shares these values, and looks forward to working with the site’s founders in the coming months as our borders grow to cover new neighborhoods.
