You Say Goodbye…

A few days ago, ANC2B Commissioner Kevin O’Connor tweeted: “Post Office (14th & T) withdraws ABRA [Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration] application. May be a problem related to ownership of business. #ANC2B.” Back in May ANC2B voted to protest the license application as a step toward securing a voluntary agreeement. So it looks like Post Office will not be adding to the massive restaurant descent on 14th Street NW. Luckily we have plenty of others that will soon be joining us.

14th & U Streets NW, Borderstan, Utopia Development, Luis Gomez Photos

Businesses in the single-level modern building on the 1900 block of 14th Street NW have closed in advance of demolition for the Utopia Project on the southwest corner of 14th and U Streets. The development will house 220 rental units and 20,000 square feet of retail space. The buildings that are home to Ace Check Cashing, McDonald’s and El Paraiso are historic and will remain. Historic U Street Post Office Back on Market

1438 U Street is in need of a new owner, as Rock Creek Group placed the property back on the market. The Washington Business Journal has the skinny on why they decided to relist the property. Plans had been floated for retail, office and even condos in the historic structure, formerly Station 9.
