Thieves punched and kicked a man until he was unconscious during a robbery in Columbia Heights last night, police said.
The crime happened on the 3600 block of 11th Street NW about 9:30 p.m. Monday.
The victim was crossing Otis Place NW when he first noticed four people, police said. He then saw them again, and they told him to “get down,” knocking him to the ground, according to authorities.
Two men sought in the theft of some power tools during a burglary at a vacant Columbia Heights building last week were caught on video.
The burglary occurred in a building under renovation on the 1300 block of Spring Road NW last Saturday, Oct. 29, around 2:45 a.m., police said. The area where the crime occurred is close to the boundary between Columbia Heights and Petworth.
A video released today shows two men lugging bags through an area that appears to be the building’s stairwell.

A man sought in a gas station hold-up in Shaw and another man wanted in a violent break-in in Mount Pleasant this month have appeared in surveillance footage, police said.
The armed robbery happened in the Valero at 420 Rhode Island Ave. NW Tuesday morning. The burglary occurred in a house on the 1600 block of Irving Street NW the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 18.
Video police distributed today in connection with the robbery shows a man in a green hooded sweatshirt pulling a gun on a gas station attendant and eventually leaving the scene with cash in his pocket.
A thief burst into a Mount Pleasant home and threw a woman inside onto her bed before he made off with thousands of dollars of electronics yesterday morning, police said.
The burglary happened on the 1600 block of Irving Street NW about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The victim was in her bedroom when she heard a “commotion” downstairs, according to authorities. She went to investigate and found a man in her house.
The intruder then grabbed the woman by her shoulder and forced her into her bedroom, slamming her down on her bed.
“This was suppose to be a regular burglary,” the man said, according to a police report. “Nobody suppose to be home!”
Three thieves with a “pointed object” robbed a man who was urinating in a Dupont Circle alley this past weekend, police said.
The robbery occurred on the 1200 block of 18th Street NW about 3 a.m. Sunday.
The victim was relieving himself behind a building about three blocks south of the Dupont Circle NW traffic circle after visiting a nightclub, according to authorities. Two men and another person then came up to him and put a unknown pointed object to his back.
A man fought off a group of burglars after they broke into an Adams Morgan home early yesterday morning.
The violent burglary happened at a residence on the 2300 block of Champlain St. NW around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to D.C. Police.
A woman was in the rear of a home when someone rang the doorbell, police said. When the woman opened her front door, she saw a man standing outside. Without warning, the man told her to “get back in the house” and “give me your money” while forcing his way inside.
During the scuffle, three other people emerged from hiding and tried to enter the home, prompting the woman to scream the name of a man who was sleeping in another room, according to police. The woman also hit the “panic” button on her home alarm system as she fought to push the intruders back through the front door.
The man awoke upon hearing the woman’s screams and rushed toward the commotion, police said. One of the burglars then pointed a handgun at the man in an apparent attempt to ward him off. But the weapon didn’t seem to faze the man, who charged the gun-wielding burglar and began to fight with him.
Though the burglar pistol-whipped the man in the head several times during the fight, the intruders eventually ran from the home without stealing anything, authorities said.

(Updated at 2:55 p.m.) A knife-wielding thief robbed a woman depositing money at a bank in Columbia Heights before it opened yesterday morning, police said.
The armed robbery happened in the lobby of the Bank of America at 3100 14th St. NW about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday. The bank, which didn’t open until 9 a.m., has 24-hour access to its lobby, which holds ATMs.
The victim was in the bank’s lobby with her money when a man came up to her from behind, according to authorities. The man then flashed a knife and told her in Spanish to give him her money.
Two young thieves forced a man out of an elevator and robbed him in Columbia Heights yesterday afternoon, police said.
The robbery happened on the 2600 block of 15th Street NW about 5 p.m. Monday.
The victim was in an elevator in an apartment building in the area when two boys got in the elevator with him, according to authorities. They then pushed him off the elevator and went through his pockets.
A thief armed with a switchblade knife robbed two men in Mount Pleasant over the weekend, according to D.C. Police.
The robbery happened on the 3300 block of Mount Pleasant St. NW around 9:15 p.m. Saturday night.
According to a police report, two men were walking along the street when a man approached them from behind and asked, “what’s in your pockets?” while pulling out a closed switchblade knife. One of the men responded, “are you serious?” to which the robber said, “I’m dead-ass.”
The robber then went through the victims’ pockets and stole some money and an iPhone, police said. The robber also took a backpack from one of the men.
The thief was last seen headed south on Mt. Pleasant Street, according to authorities.
A robber punched a man who was on his way to his girlfriend’s house in Lanier Heights last night, according to D.C. Police.
The violent robbery happened on the 1800 block of Clydesdale Place NW just after 10:10 p.m., police said.
According to a police report, a man was walking to his girlfriend’s house when he was approached by four men. One of the men in the group punched the man in the jaw and snatched his backpack, which contained a laptop and other personal belongings, police said.
The assailant and three other people were last seen heading north on the 1800 block of Clydesdale Place NW, according to authorities.
Someone behind the wheel of a car flashed a gun at a driver who honked at them in Columbia Heights yesterday afternoon, according to D.C. Police.
The incident occurred on the 3200 block of Sherman Ave. NW around 3:45 p.m. yesterday, police said.
A man was driving southbound on Sherman Ave. NW when a driver in a Dodge Dart cut him off, police said. When the man honked his horn, the driver stopped their car, opened their door and showed the man a handgun before driving away, according to police.
Police said the driver was last seen on the 1200 block of Columbia Rd. NW.
(Updated at 12:35 p.m.) Two thieves robbed a woman at gunpoint in Dupont early yesterday morning, according to D.C. Police.
The robbery happened on the 1800 block of Connecticut Ave. NW around 3:10 a.m. yesterday morning, authorities said.
A woman was walking along Connecticut Avenue when she was approached from behind by two robbers armed with a black handgun, police said.
According to a police report, one of the robbers grabbed the woman’s arms and told her to “gimme your stuff.”
Police said the thieves ran off with the woman’s purse, which contained hundreds of dollars in cash and several other personal items.
Authorities did not provide a lookout for the suspected robbers.
A man sought in a burglary at a pie shop on the H Street corridor has appeared on surveillance footage, police said.
The crime happened in Dangerously Delicious Pies at 1339 H St. NE about 5:15 a.m. June 23. A burglar forced open a rear door to the store, went inside and stole cash before leaving, according to authorities.

When two men broke into a frozen yogurt shop near U Street last week, they apparently weren’t looking for sweets, according to police.
Authorities are on the hunt for two masked men filmed burglarizing the Menchie’s at 1939 12th St. NW last Monday at 4:40 a.m.
In a video released by D.C. Police, the men can be seen smashing the store’s front door and running inside. The men then appear to fumble with items in the back of the store before leaving with two box-like objects.
A representative for the U Street Menchie’s was not immediately available to comment.

A man slipped into a downtown hotel room and got into bed with a woman without her permission as she slept early yesterday morning, police said.
The encounter occurred in The Westin Washington, D.C. City Center at 1400 M St. NW about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The man didn’t force his way into the room before he laid next to the sleeping woman, according to authorities. But it wasn’t clear how he got in.
The victim awoke when the man started to rub and touch her right arm. The woman began to tussle with the man soon after, and he eventually left the room.
Morris Sherman, 38, was arrested in connection with the incident and charged with burglary.
Emily Barth, a lawyer who is representing him, wasn’t immediately available to comment.
A Westin representative didn’t have an immediate comment.
