Police car lightA man looking to buy drugs in Shaw was robbed of his car and other belongings at gunpoint over the weekend, police said.

The robbery happened on the 1300 block of 8th Street NW about 8 p.m. Saturday. The area is between the City Market at O and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

The victim drove his Toyota Camry to a parking lot in the vicinity to meet a drug dealer, according to authorities. Once parked, someone got into the car and pulled out a revolver. The person with the gun then told the driver to “give that shit up,” referring to the car and some of the victim’s belongings.

The driver gave the person a Samsung Galaxy cell phone, $350 in cash and some clothing before getting out of the vehicle, police said. The robber then took off with the car, abandoning it about five blocks away near 4th and N streets NW.

Authorities haven’t released a description of the suspect.

A man robbed another man at knifepoint on the U Street corridor early yesterday morning, too.

The robbery occurred on the 1200 block of U Street NW about 4 a.m. Sunday.

The two men were walking in the alley next to Ben’s Chili Bowl when one of them said he wanted to smoke marijuana, according to authorities.

It wasn’t clear from a police report who wanted to smoke the weed. What was clear, however, is that one of the men flashed a knife after the marijuana discussion and ordered the other man to “give me what you got,” police said.

The victim then handed over his iPhone and wallet to the knife-wielding man, who fled.

Police later arrested the suspect in the robbery and recovered the victim’s stolen belongings. The identity of the suspect wasn’t immediately clear.

A man also was punched in the face in an attempted robbery near 14th and U streets NW early Saturday morning, according to authorities.

The attempted robbery happened on the 2000 block of 14th Street NW about 3:15 a.m. Saturday.

The victim was in the vicinity when a group of four people approached him, police said. Members of the group then asked the victim where he went to party and if he wanted to “have fun,” according to authorities.

Soon after, one of the individuals in the group punched the victim in the face and ordered him to give up his “stuff,” police said. The attacker and the three other people with the assailant then saw a police car nearby and fled without any of the victim’s belongings.

Authorities haven’t released a description of the suspects.

D.C. Police are on the lookout for a man they say beat a driver and stole his car near Farragut Square earlier this month.

In a video released by police today, a man wanted in connection with the crime can be seen peering into a camera and darting into traffic near an intersection.

According to police, a driver was stopped at a red light on the 1500 block of K Street NW on Sept. 9 around 9:10 p.m. While stopped, the driver was approached by a man who yanked open the front passenger-side door and demanded property, said police. The assailant then allegedly punched the driver in the face, causing him to jump out of the car and run away. Police said the suspect took the wheel and drove to the 1600 block of K street NW before running into another car. The car then lost power due to its distance from the driver’s keyless entry fob.

The suspect climbed out of the vehicle and chased after the victim to retrieve the keys, said police. After giving chase, the alleged assailant overtook his victim, knocked him unconscious and stole his car keys.

The suspected carjacker was last seen driving north on the 1000 block of 17th Street NW.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the victim sustained any injuries in the attack. Police said that although the victim was knocked unconscious during the assault, he refused medical treatment at the scene. D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Oscar Mendez said that one person was taken from the scene to the hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition, but could not say if it was the victim.

Crimes of note for the Dupont-Logan-U Street area.

The top crime for the past week was a Monday evening carjacking at 4:50 pm at 10th and N Streets NW. According to MPD, Robert Pulley of Southeast DC has been arrested for armed carjacking in the crime.

The police report:

“[Police] Units arrived on scene and found an adult male suffering from a stab wound to the stomach, he was taken to a local hospital where he is in stable condition. Witnesses on the scene advised police, that the wounded male was stabbed when an older male, 30-40 years of age, approached his vehicle displaying a knife and ordered him out of the car, once out of the car, the suspect stabbed the victim, jumped into the victim’s car and sped off. Thanks to the information provided on the scene to the officers, members of the Sixth District were able to locate and apprehend the suspect, knife used and victim’s vehicle, after a brief vehicle pursuit in the Southeast section of the city.”

By the numbers… there were 11 reported robberies in the area last week, six of them on Saturday. One of the robberies involved a gun and two involved a knife (one of two assaults also involved a knife). Of the 11 robberies and two assaults, the noticeable trend is that virtually all were in daylight or evening hours–none were late at night or in the very early morning hours.

Robberies, assaults, stolen autos and burglaries for the July 16-20 period are below the fold.
