Dupont Circle Drybar

Drybar fans will soon have a new destination for blowouts in Dupont Circle.

The California-based beauty chain announced today it will open its forthcoming store at 1635 Connecticut Avenue NW on Friday.

A walk through the Drybar “menu” reveals a slim list of services and treatments including blowouts, shampoos and hair masks named after drinks that cost $10, $20, $28 or $80.

Another Drybar location is also set to open at 1006 E St. NW in Penn Quarter this fall.

1794 Columbia Road

A Chinatown-based beauty and hair salon plans to move its operation to Adams Morgan early next month.

AsukiSQ will open in the former Mixtec space at 1794 Columbia Rd. NW after moving out of its current home near the Gallery Place Chinatown Metro station in early November, said salon owner Oscar Au.

“It was hard finding another suitable space in Chinatown, so that’s why I decided to bring the salon to Columbia [Road],” Au said. “I want to help clients there, too.”

AsukiSQ is an official stylist for the Miss Asian America Beauty Pageant, according to its website. In addition to hair styling, the salon’s beauticians also perform manicures and pedicures.

Salim, owner of Subairi Salon at 1635 R Street, has been cutting my hair for almost 15 years. He has moved his shop around the corner to 17th Street (just south of R on the west side) and renamed it Salon Rouge. He showed me the space before it opened; it’s lighter, roomier and has more space for spa services.
