Work only began last September, but the luxury apartment building at 1919 14th Street NW reached a milestone in April with structural completion of the roof and penthouse levels. The building is on the east side of 14th Street between Wallach Place and T Street NW.
Decking, reinforcing steel and load-bearing steel framing were installed on the two upper levels of the building. Meanwhile, work has continued on the lower floors and the parking garage, according to Level 2 Development and Keener-Squire Properties, the site developers, and Grunley Construction.
This month, work continues on the interior of the building while the construction team begins work on the exterior. Eventually, 1919 14th Street NW will have a brick veneer and that should start going on this month.
The developers and construction company say that without delays the 1919 project should finish construction by the end of summer, move on to landscaping by early autumn, and reach completion by the end of 2013.
Shifting Covered Walkways
Everyone walking up 14th Street during this time of construction has likely found themselves underneath the covered walkway on the east side of the street. This has been due in part to the Louis complex being built on the west side of 14th. But as the utility work comes to completion at the Louis, the covered walkway in front of 1919 14th Street will close and a covered walkway will open up the west side in front of the Louis. This shift in the landscape will likely take place in May and last approximately two months.
