Today’s photo, “True Reformer,” was taken by kilohoku on November 20. The True Reformer Building at 1200 U Street NW was completed in 1903. According to Cultural Tourism DC, “The True Reformer Building was the work of the Grand United Order of True Reformers, a benevolent society based in Richmond, Virginia.” The mural of Duke Ellington on the building was painted by G. Byron Peck.

Today’s photo, “Summer Storm,” was taken by kilohoku on July 11. “A strike in the sky,” says kilohoku. “The photo was taken from a 7th floor terrace in The Ellington at 1301 U Street NW. To orient you, on the right border of the image you can see the glass roof of Bistro Tabaq (it is pretty dark), the building directly across U Street is home to Pure nightclub and Urban Essentials.”

Today’s photo, “ISS flyover,” was taken bykilohoku, June 29, on U Street NW. kilohoku says, “I seriously underestimated how bright the ISS would be, but in my defense, this was one of the brightest possible passes. At magnitude -3.4 it was as bright as Venus.” ISS refers to the International Space Station.

Wikipedia says, “The International Space Station (ISS) is an internationally-developed research facility, which is being assembled in low Earth orbit and is the largest space station ever constructed.On-orbit construction of the station began in 1998 and is scheduled for completion by 2012. The station is expected to remain in operation until at least 2020, and potentially to 2028.Like many artificial satellites, the ISS can be seen from Earth with the naked eye.
