An adult boutique centered around sex positivity has closed its doors in Adams Morgan.
Lotus Blooms (located 2408 18th St. NW) was forced to shutter roughly two weeks ago after it ran into “legal issues,” according to store manager and education coordinator Teal Dye. The location opened last September.
“It was a very hard decision that we had to make due to legal issues,” according to a statement Dye shared with us earlier today. “We’ll miss our 18th Street home and the Adams Morgan community that welcomed us so warmly.”
The adult boutique currently has one store in Alexandria.

Residents can now step inside an adult boutique centered around sex positivity that opened in Adams Morgan last week.
Lotus Blooms, located 2408 18th St. NW, sells lingerie, adult accessories and educational books.
Store manager and education coordinator Teal Dye said despite the rainy weather last week, many residents braved the elements to see the new store.
“We weren’t exactly sure what it would be like here, but the neighborhood has been so welcoming,” Dye said. She added that customers were curious, mostly of the store’s “sex-positive” theme.
“The term means something a little different to everyone,” Dye said. “We’re here to be open and inclusive by helping people learn about sex positivity as it applies to them.”
In addition to being salespeople, Lotus Blooms employees are also sex educators trained to answer questions about anatomy and cultural norms.
“We were founded to create a safe space for people to learn,” Dye said. “It’s our hope to be a resource for safety and to share stories so we can discover what sex positivity means to people in D.C.”
An Alexandria-based adult boutique founded on sex positivity is slated open a location in Adams Morgan tomorrow.
Lotus Blooms will open its doors tomorrow at 2408 18th Street NW, said marketing director Rebecca Proch.
Proch said that the opening, which was first teased in May, has been delayed by permitting issues. But she added that the store received its final approval yesterday and will be ready for shoppers during a soft opening tomorrow morning.
Lotus Blooms, based in Alexandria, sells adult accessories and apparel and hosts sex-themed education events.
