MetroWeekly has 155 photos from last Saturday’s annual Pride of Pets Dog Show in Dupont Circle. Borderstan published the list of winners on Sunday.
The dog show raised approximately $1,500 for PETS-DC, according to the group’s director, Chip Wells. Be sure to read MetroWeekly’s feature article on Well’s, too.
Owners-guardians-servants of 55 dogs paid a registration fee to enter their dogs in one or more of 15 categories. Pets-DC always accepts donations and you can get information at their website on how to make a donation. The nonprofit helps care for the companion animals of people with disabling illnesses.

The Saturday temperature in Dupont Circle was relatively pleasant for the 17th Annual Pride of Pets Dog Show, but it was still a Dog Day Afternoon. The dog show raised approximately $1,500 for PETS-DC, according to the group’s director, Chip Wells. Owners-guardians-servants of 55 dogs paid a registration fee to enter their dogs in one or more of 15 categories.
The winners of the 15 categories (see listing below of all winners with 2nd- and 3rd-place finishers) were then eligible for the Peoples Choice Best of Show. The Peoples Choice award goes to the dog who receives the most support and applause from the spectators.
This year’s Peoples Choice winner was Bella, a Shih Tzu puppy, with second place going to Harley and third place to Lani.

Bella won two categories to get to the finals: Most Affectionate-Small Dog Division and Best Puppy. Harley’s ticket to the finals was a win in the Most Mysterious Heritage category, while Lani got there with a 1st Place in the Most Obedient category.

The annual Pride of Pets Dog Show in Dupont Circle is a must-attend event if you are in town this weekend. This year’s dog show is Saturday, June 26, from 3 to 6 pm.
If you are interested in entering your dog, the registration form is online. There are 15 categories for your dog; it costs $6 per category or for $25 you can enter your dog into as many categories as you like. (Whether your dog will enjoy being entered into 15 categories is something entirely different.)
Entry fees help support PETS-DC, a nonprofit that helps care for the companion animals of people with disabling illnesses.

What happened in Dupont Circle yesterday? Was there a bomb threat that caused the U.S. Park Police to clear the park? According to a participant of the 16th Annual Pride of Pets dog show, the park was cleared for about 30 minutes during the event.
Another eyewitness reported that around 4:30 p.m., the Park Police suddenly blocked off streets leading to Dupont Circle and then forced everyone to leave:
“Moments ago, US Park Police cleared Dupont Circle of all persons, announcing the move was ‘for everyone’s safety.’ Meanwhile, DCMPD and Fire/EMS had a heavy presence in front of the CVS, including no passage for pedestrians or vehicles. I don’t see anything on the news or blogs yet.”
