Spike Lee will be recognized at the Lincoln Theater this Saturday, June 4 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. Tickets are $28.50. The Hung Tai Choy Mei Leadership Institute, a non-profit organization that focuses on leadership development for D.C.’s youth, will present Lee with the 2011 Paul Robeson, “Here I Stand” award. “By participating in the Leadership Institute’s programs and attending the Institute’s classes, students develop life-enhancing skills along with positive values, a sense of purpose and direction, and a commitment to progressive community development.” (Hung Tai Choi Mei)
Lee’s award ceremony will also stand alongside special performances by Urban Artistry, Hung Tao Choy Mei “Lucky Lions and Thunder Drummers,” International Martial Arts sensation Olivia Zhang and harmonicist Frederic Yonnet.
This weekend is also your last chance to catch Green Bird, at The Source. “This commedia dell’arte fantasia involves a lovesick king, a greedy fortune teller, an insatiable sausage-maker, a seductive statue and a magical green bird. This vibrant world combines philosophical ideas about truth, love, sacrifice and compassion with inventive physical comedy and Tom Teasley’s sensational live music.” (Source)
