Few things in life are better than heading to a nearby park on a summer evening with a blanket, a wedge of cheese, a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine in-tow.

Now imagine that state of bliss paired with an outdoor screening of an independent film.

Yes, it’s really happening – and it’s all at this year’s “Screen on the Green.” The event, which is part of the annual Capital Pride festival, will take place at Stead Park (17th and Church Streets NW) on Saturday, June 2. The picnic begins at 6 pm, the film (“READY? OK!”) will start at dusk and Team DC will be on-hand to host pre-show antics and games.

Are your kids too young for The Hunger Games? Here’s a fun alternative that still involves some outdoor competition with neighboring children.

Saturday’s egg hunt will include snacks, face painting, balloons and a bunny. (Image courtesy Lindsay Reishman Real Estate)

The 7th Annual Lindsay Reishman Real Estate Holiday Egg Hunt will take place Saturday, April 7 at 10:45 am at Stead Park, 1625 P Street NW. The event is open to the public and will include snacks, face painting, balloon artistry (!), pictures with the Easter Bunny (!!) and yes, Easter eggs!

Participation is free, but organizers ask that each child bring his or her own basket and make sure to RSVP. (Egg donations are also encouraged; they should be dropped off at Stead Park before 10:30 am, so the Bunny can do his work.)

Participants should arrive promptly at 10:45 am for the egg hunt. Please send RSVP to [email protected]

May the eggs be ever in your basket!

Pride 2011, Borderstan, Drag Kickball

Click on the collage for the slide show: It was Drag Kickball at Stead Park Field on Sunday evening. (Luis Gomez Photos)

From Luis Gomez

We got pics!

It was Drag Kickball on Sunday evening, June 5, at Stead Park Field and hundreds of Borderstanis turned out for the fun. The event was sponsored by Stonewall Kickball and Capital Pride. The winner of the kickball competition was the team from Nellie’s Sports Bar (led by Miss Shiqueeta Lee) while the winner of the dance competition was the “Bottoms Up” team.

As Capital Pride billed the event on their website, “Two teams of local Drag Queens and members of the Stonewall Kickball league dressed in drag will compete to determine who the Queens of the Ball really are. Who will win? Who will cry? Most importantly, who will lose their weave?”

For more information on LGBT Pride events in the Dupont-Logan-U Street area, check out June 1-12: Capital Pride Events in Borderstan Area. Get complete Capital Pride 2011 information on their website.
