This week’s mystery city is actually where Luis grew up: Valencia, in the Venezuelan state of Carabobo. It is located about 75 miles west of Caracas and just a few miles south of the Caribbean Sea.
Valencia is the third largest city in Venezuela and you might call it “Venezuela’s Chicago.” It was traditionally the center of Venezuelan manufacturing and industry and has an estimated population of more than 1.5 million people, behind Caracas and Maracaibo.
Congratulations to the 31% of Borderstan readers who correctly guessed the identify of Valencia. Tied for second place were Florinopolis, Santa Cataraina (Brazil) and Rosario, Santa Fe (Argentina), each with 25%.
Previous Mystery Cities were Caracas, Valaparaiso, Sydney, Bratislava, La Paz and Santiago, Long Beach, Toronto and St. Louis. We will have Mystery City #11 on Tuesday.
